Environmental Experts SU has had the opportunity to learn about the ecology of the lake from numerous speakers over the years. Sounds boring, - not really as we have learned a lot about the changes that have happened to Lake Michigan and their impact fishing. Some of the speakers have included Dr. Russell Cuhel and Carmen Aguilar from the Great Lakes Water Institute who discussed the impact of zebra and quagga mussels on Lake Michigan and Dr. Harvey Bootsma who discussed the slimy algae called cladophera.

WI DNR These guys and gals are frequent guests at our meetings and provide updates on various activities within
the DNR as well some insight to what is happening by other organizations such as stocking programs in Michigan or Indiana, which impact
our fishing. One is Cheryl Peterson who is not only informative but also fun to listen to. Recently she has given us updates
on the Root River Steelhead Facility activity as well as updates on the Wild Rose fish hatchery.
Fishing Experts We have had many SU members and charter captains from numerous ports on Lake Michigan give presentations
on their methods and techniques. We also have had numerous lure manufacturer representatives who are also fishing experts show
us lures and the best way to run and rig those lures. The audience gets some great information on the importance of water temperature;
water depths; lure spread especially in clear water; speed/rigging of lures and many other tips. We are now starting to expand
into on-shore techniques.
At many of our SU monthly meetings throughout the year we have had informative guest speakers present and demonstrate topics ranging
from the latest in lures; fishing techniques (Off shore, On shore), DNR updates and Great Lakes environmental issues. Here are
a few examples
Our guest speaker for the March Meeting will be Capt. Gabe Powers of the Prove it II.
